2. What is the weather like?
Although a Colorado summer is usually warm and delightful, you can also expect the occasional cool or rainy day. In almost ALL cases, our trips depart as scheduled, REGARDLESS of the weather. Morning temperatures are always cooler at higher elevations, and mountain weather conditions are subject to sudden changes. It is better to wear too much rather than not enough. In late summer, brief afternoon showers are not unlikely. Remember, at higher altitudes, the sun is STRONG. Never underestimate the potential for sunburn and always wear sun block.
3. Are trips ever cancelled or delayed?
Although it is rare, occasionally trips may need to be cancelled, delayed, or altered due to weather conditions, river conditions, or other considerations. On the very rare occasion that WE may cancel a trip, your money will be fully refunded or reapplied to another trip, as you desire.
4. What should we wear?
RAFTING: Wear clothes and footwear that you do not mind getting wet (preferably tennis shoes or sandals with straps). On warm sunny days, we recommend a bathing suit, shorts, t-shirt, and a light waterproof shell. On cool overcast days, a fleece, a wool sweater, or polypropylene is best to keep you dry. It is best not to wear cotton or denim, as these get wet and stay cold. Hooded waterproof shells and pants are helpful if you have them. We provide paddle jackets and pants at no extra charge; wet suits and booties are available upon request. Please also see "The Well Dressed Rafter" guide.
BIKING: We recommend comfortable clothes that will allow you to move your arms and legs freely. On warm sunny days, wear shorts, t-shirt, and sturdy shoes appropriate for biking and/or hiking. A light fleece jacket or a sweater is good for cool days or early morning trips. We will provide rain jackets at no extra charge.
SUNSET DINNERS/HIKING/JEEPING: Always dress warmly, in layers, and with sturdy footwear. A t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweater, and jacket along with pants/shorts that allow free movement are best. Remember that evenings cool off pretty fast at higher altitudes, so dress warmly for the Sunset Dinners.
BALLOONING: Trips leave very early in the morning and the air can be brisk. Once in the air however, you will feel no wind and the BTU burners reflect heat to help keep you warm. As on other trips, we recommend that you dress in warm layers.
FLY-FISHING: We provide the waders (bibs;) you need to wear a long sleeved cotton shirt or t-shirt, jeans or cotton pants, wool socks, hat with visor, and polarized sunglasses.
HORSEBACK RIDING: Long (cotton) denim pants and sturdy shoes (no sandals.)
5.What should we bring?
A camera and film are always recommended. We recommend disposable (waterproof, for rafting) cameras. You may also bring your own pack, sunglasses with strap, sunscreen, and a visor or hat. These are all available for purchase at our office should you forget. Our guides are professionals and any gratuities are graciously accepted.
6.Do we need to bring anything to eat or drink?
Our half-day trips include a refreshment and our three quarter and full day trips include lunch. Refreshments: Homemade-style cookies and drinks. Lunch: Buffet-style with assorted meats and cheeses, breads, lettuce and tomatoes, fresh fruit, homemade cookies, and drinks. Sunset Dinners: Chips with salsa fresco and guacamole, vegetarian soup du jour, mixed green salad with herb vinaigrette dressing, BBQ ribs, lemon-herb filet of sockeye salmon, orzo rice pilaf, twice-baked potato, corn on the cob, fresh baked rolls, chef's choice cookie or brownie, choice of iced tea or lemonade, coffee service, and s'mores!
