Wilderness Hiking Trips

Beginner - Half Day Trips (includes refreshments)


1. Hunter CreekEnjoy great views of the Elk Mountain Range while meandering through aspen groves and colorful fields. Minimum age: 8. Elevation gain: 600-1000 feet. Round trip distance: 3-4 miles. Length: 3 hours. Season: mid-May – October.

2. Crater Lake
This hike begins at beautiful Maroon Lake, and a stunning view of the 14,000-foot Maroon Bells rewards you along the way. You’ll learn about the formations of the Bells and native vegetation. Minimum age: 8. Elevation gain: 700 feet. Round trip distance: 3 miles. Length: 3 hours. Season: mid-June – October.

3. Snowmass Creek
Mt. Daly forms a beautiful backdrop for this hike while traveling through woods and open meadows affords great views of the peaks ahead. Minimum age: 8. Elevation gain: 1,000 ft. Round trip distance: 3-4 miles. Length: 3 hours. Season: mid-June – October.



Intermediate - Half or 3/4 Day Trips (includes refreshments & lunch)

1. Difficult Creek
T
his forested trail offers a gradual uphill and views of Aspen and the valley.  Minimum age: 8: Elevation gain: 600-1,000 ft: Round trip distance: 3-4 miles: Length: 5 hours: Season: mid-June – October.


2. American Lake – See the scenic Castle Creek Valley and an alpine lake nestled among 12,000 and 13,000-foot peaks. The shoreline of the lake makes for a great picnic place. Minimum age: 12. Elevation gain: 2,000 ft. Round trip distance: 7 miles. Length: 5 hours. Season: mid-June – October.



Advanced - Full day Trips (includes refreshments & lunch)

1. Grizzly Lake
This trail leads you along the Continental Divide up to an alpine lake located at the base of 13,988-foot Grizzly Peak. Minimum age: 16 (flexible-depending on age and experience.) Elevation gain: 2,200 ft. Round trip distance: 7.5 miles. Length: 7 hours. Season July – October.

2. Buckskin Pass – E
xperience unsurpassed views of Crater Lake, the Maroon Bells, Pyramid Peak, Capitol Peak and more. Minimum age: 16 (flexible-depending on age and experience.) Elevation gain: 3,100 ft. Round trip distance: 9.5 miles. Length: 7 hours. Season: July – October.

3. Lost Man Loop
Hike through delicate tundra, and visit alpine lakes with awesome views of the Continental Divide. Minimum age: 16 (flexible-depending on age and experience.) Elevation gain: 1,300 ft. Round trip distance: 9 miles. Length: 7 hours. Season: July – October.
